As the Spanish extended their empire out of Mexico, they established a Presidio (fortress) along the San Pedro River in 1776. Learn about the Presidio and what happened there to make the Spanish abandon the fort in 1780. The walk is about 3 miles (round trip) and will take about 3 hours. Wear a hat and bring plenty of water.

When: 9 AM 

Where: Meet at the Presidio parking Area on In Balance Ranch Road off Highway 82.

Basic Directions

From Sierra Vista travel north on Highway 90 to the intersection with Highway 82 and turn right (east). Travel approximately 9 miles to Mile Marker 60 and turn left (north) onto In Balance Ranch Road. The parking lot for the trail head is 1.8 miles on the right.
