March is Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month. The Friends of the San Pedro River will lead walks to significant historic sites within the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area every Saturday in March.

Clanton Ranch This site was the residence and ranch of one of the well-known cattle rustlers at the time of the famous events between the cowboys and Earps in Tombstone in the 1880s. Join FSPR docent Bette Ford on this easy 3-mile walk to the site of Ike Clanton's ranch. Meet at the Escapule Road Parking Area.

All tours will start at 9:00 am. Wear a hat and good walking shoes; bring sunscreen, water, and a snack. Allow at least 3 hours for each walk.

Basic Directions

From Charleston Road west of the San Pedro River, turn south on Escapule Road.

Go approx. 1.2 miles, and turn left into the Escapule Trail parking lot.
