The Art of Effie Anderson Smith (1869-1955)
Enjoy a Thanksgiving Weekend exhibit of 25 paintings by Arizona’s Pioneer Desert Landscape Artist – Effie Anderson Smith (1869-1955) who made her home and art studio at the Hotel Gadsden in Douglas during the 1940s after 45 years living and painting in the mining camp at Pearce. Effie’s colorful desert scenes paintings of Cochise County in the 1920s, 30s and 40s will be on view at Studio 917 Gallery and at the Douglas Historical Society. Studio 917 will be open Friday 11/29 from 4-8p, Saturday 11/30 from 11a to 6p and Sunday 12/1 from 11a to 4p at 917 G Avenue in Douglas. On Saturday a reception will be held at 1pm and a Walking Tour at 2pm highlighting key spots in the artistic life of E.A. Smith in Douglas with an opportunity to see 25 desert paintings from a century ago along with works by Effie’s most accomplished students at the Douglas Art Association.
