John was a Virginia gentleman cavalryman patrolling the Mexican Border. Ila was driving mule team ore wagons to Mexico for shipment for the war effort. It was World War I and the start of their story together. She came from a distinguished Western pioneer family and became known for her hunting prowess. He would become the longest serving officer at Fort Huachcua. With a long military career and their wide ranging hospitality in Carr Canyon from 1936 until 1972, they created their legacy, which included not only soldiers and Apache Scouts, but also famous naturalists, hunters, archaeologists, asthmatic children, and artists. Join historian Rosemary Snapp for an insightful program spotlighting these fascinating people.
