Join us for “The Relics and Remains of the Ancient Paquiméans” with speaker Dr. Gordon F.M. Rakita.

As Benjamin Franklin noted, nothing is certain but death and taxes. Every society must develop methods for dealing with death. Dr. Gordon Rakita, University of North Florida professor, describes how the inhabitants of ancient Paquimé (CE 1200 – 1400) ushered members of their community into the afterlife. Discover what their mortuary rituals tell us about Paquiméan culture in northern Mexico.

Amazing Arizona, hosted by the Henry F. Hauser Museum, is a series of educational presentations seeking to educate and entertain the community regarding unique historical aspects of our state. Our current series was inspired by a collection of quilts donated by our own Hummingbird Stitchers Quilt Guild depicting the nature, culture, and history of life along the border.
