Join Benson Visitor Center historian Bob Nilson for an in-depth presentation of the railroad's influence in the development of Benson from the time of the Gadsden Purchase to the 1940's. The Southern Pacific Railroad first entered Arizona Territory in April of 1877. The Southern route crossed the Colorado River at Yuma and construction headed east at about 2 miles a day. The town of Benson came into existence around June of 1880. Bob's extensive knowledge of Benson history and of the railroads of Cochise County, along with his collection of vintage photographs serve as the framework for this entertaining and insightful program.
