Jun 21: Guided Tour of Buffalo Soldier Historical Sites
Learn about the history of the All-Black soldiers, nicknamed Buffalo Soldiers, stationed on Fort Huachuca in the late 1800s from a representative of the Southwest Association of Buffalo Soldiers (SWABS). The very knowledgeable members conduct guided monthly tours onto Fort Huachuca to various historic sites. A City bus will pick up passengers at 11:00 a.m. at the Visitor's Center at 3020 E. Tacoma Street for chartered service to the post museum. Passengers will enjoy the ease with which they can park their vehicle at the Visitor's Center and leave the driving to City bus drivers. The bus will return to the Visitor's Center at approximately 3 p.m. Free. (520) 417-6960 Note: The post is an active military installation. US citizens over the age of 13 who are planning to take the tour must show valid photo identification before boarding the bus. Due to military regulations non-US citizens are not permitted on post.

Jul 4: Benson July 4th Celebration
The City of Benson puts on one of the best small-town July 4th celebrations in Arizona. It starts at 9:00am with a hometown parade. After the parade the festivities move over to Lions Park where all the local volunteer fire departments compete in a water fight, which consists of using the water pressure of the fire hoses to push a barrel back and forth on a cable. Everyone gets wet! After the water fight there will be entertainment under the ramada all day. There will also be food and craft vendors. At 8:30 we start a fantastic pyrotechnics display. Jul 3-4: 4th of July Festivities
Activities start at 6 pm July 3 with a youth talent show at Veterans' Memorial Park, 3105 E. Fry Blvd. Sierra Vista, followed by a street dance with the popular band "Train Wreck." July 4th starts with the Pets & People Parade, followed by entertainment, food, and displays all day at Veterans' Memorial Park. A noon ceremony features an address by the Commander, US Army Intelligence Center and Ft. Huachuca; an F-16 flyover; and a 50 gun salute. Major bands play at both Veterans' Memorial Park and Stone Field starting at 6 pm. Southeast Arizona's most spectacular fireworks show starts at dusk at the Paiz/Stone Complex, on Tacoma Street, followed by another band. Free. (520) 266-2304.

Jul 27: "Happy Jack" - Presentation at Carr House
Jack Ashworth, resident from 1900 to 1926, was a miner, merchant, Garces Postmaster and store keeper on Ramsey Road. "Happy Jack" was a well-known local character. Research by Ed Francis, telling by Rosemary Snapp.

Oct 11: Butterfield Overland Stage Days
This year the Benson Chamber of Commerce will be putting on a special Butterfield Overland Stage Days. Although it only ran for 2 years in 1858 and 1859, it was one of the turning points in American history.  October of 2008 will mark 150 years since John Butterfield’s dream for an overland mail and passenger service connecting the East with the West. There will be vendors and entertainment in Lions Park. The Benson Volunteer Fire Department will be celebrating their 101st  birthday with a large cake with 101 candles (subject to approval of Fire Marshal). There will also be an official U.S. Post Office Pony Express mail run from Benson to Dragoon on horseback taking letters with a special cancellation just for this event. Oct 11: Butterfield Rodeo
The Benson Rodeo Committee will be having their one-day Butterfield Rodeo on October11th will all the profits going to charity. May 17: Guided Tour of Buffalo Soldier Historical Sites
Learn about the history of the All-Black soldiers, nicknamed Buffalo Soldiers, stationed on Fort Huachuca in the late 1800s from a representative of the Southwest Association of Buffalo Soldiers (SWABS). The very knowledgeable members conduct guided monthly tours onto Fort Huachuca to various historic sites. A City bus will pick up passengers at 11:00 a.m. at the Visitor's Center at 3020 E. Tacoma Street for chartered service to the post museum. Passengers will enjoy the ease with which they can park their vehicle at the Visitor's Center and leave the driving to City bus drivers. The bus will return to the Visitor's Center at approximately 3 p.m. Free. (520) 417-6960 Note: The post is an active military installation.
