SUMMARY:History Tour, Murray Springs Clovis Site
DESCRIPTION:Join FSPR docent Dwight Long for a tour at Murray Springs. This is perhaps the preeminent archaeological site in Arizona. It was here in the 1960s and 70s that Dr. Vance Haynes led an excavation of a Clovis Culture mammoth kill site and a Clovis encampment, the first such camp site found. The Clovis Culture was active in this area roughly 13,000 years ago! Dwight will lead the group around the walkway at the site describing the Clovis Culture and the dig. He always brings a collection of replica artifacts to display.\nThis free event includes about a mile of walking over a mostly level trail. Visitors must be able to navigate a set of earthen steps in and out of a wash. There is a pit toilet at the site. Please dress for the weather, including a hat, and walking shoes. Bring water and a snack.\nClick here to download the event flyer.\n
