Have an itch to enter the mysterious world of stalactites and stalagmites? If you don’t want to wait on hold to make a telephone reservation you can now book online. Let your fingers do the walking across your keyboard and book your tour of this breathtaking attraction.

Arizona’s most popular ancient, underground sensation has a new reservation system that lets you book your online instead of the “old-fashioned” way. Check availability and book your caving experience

Opened in 1999, the Caverns’ Rotunda/Throne Tour lasts about 1-½ hours and plunges you into a 72-degree environment where you’ll see 45,000-year-old bat guano, delicate formations and the massive Kubla Khan, Arizona’s largest column formation. To maintain the cave's pristine state – as well as some of its frequent native inhabitants – the park will close Oct. 10-14, 2011. (Also no tours on December 25.)

The Big Room Tour, open since 2003, will take about 1 ¾ hours and exposes you to more strange and colorful formations.  This one is restricted to guests ages 7 and up and offers descriptions of the cave’s denizens, both living and pre-historic!  Springtime visitors need to hurry to get in on this one since the Big Room Tour is closed from mid-April to mid-October.

Each tour is $22.95 for adults and $12.95 for children 7 and above.  There is no charge for children under 7 to join the Rotunda/Throne Tour.  Be sure to check other information and restrictions. You can also view lots of stories, historic information and photos on the park’s official site.  For those seeking same-day reservations, the park’s reservation phone line is still available 7 days a week, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (MST), at 520-586-2283.

(And, if you’re pondering the difference between the Caverns’ two main formation types, think “stalactites hang ‘tightly’ to the ceiling” and “stalagmites ‘might’ someday grow tall enough to touch a stalactite!”  Now you know.)

Celebrate Cochise County's unique heritage and culture throughout the year.
